Performance was better with 4.4.4 and it was rock solid stable. 5.0 and 5.1 could use some more polish and it uses more RAM but other than that, I prefer most of the improvements in Lolipop even though there's a few I could do without.

If you don't want the G2, the Moto X is a good buy. The 2014 model can be had for $299 new. Pretty great deal. Camera is alright and battery life is serviceable but that's some pretty killer specs for $300. 2013 Model can be had for under $200
Honestly a Galaxy S3 would be fine if you want it. Dual Core S4, 2gb, 720p screen. Same specs as the Moto X 2013. Only difference is it is running Samsungs skin and could get laggy at times. For a phone to use as a phone (Texting, email, GPS) then it will be fine. I still see LOTS of them out in...
Yeah! Use they least secure operating system and web browser out there! MS is only after money! There's no reason why they shouldn't support a 14 year old operating system.
