Question: viruses (the organic kind)

In summary: why do some viruses (Ebola, AIDS, etc.) kill their hosts? Isn't this detrimental to their ability to survive/reproduce/etc? I'm probably missing the obvious reasons...

Possible to leech Windows 98 off PC?

Got an old Packard Bell at a yard sale for $10 and want to leech the OS off of it before I format, because I'm gonna install Linux. Is there any way to do this?

Anyone know how to open a Pac Bell Legend Supreme 1905 case?

Okay, got a Packard Bell + monitor, keyboard, and mouse with Win98 at a yard sale for $10. The hard drive is 3GB, and I have another old PC lying around and want to stick its HDD into the Packard. Thing is, I can't figure out how to open the case, and after basically smashing my old HP to pieces...

Thanks for the replies, all. I've decided to hold off on buying a lappy for a while, since prices are falling. There are quite a few options in the $600-800 price range at the moment.

Yeah, planning to go take a look at that ASAP. Can anyone else give feedback on the Toshibas? Seems like for every brand out there (except IBM) there are fifteen people saying 'Oh yeah, those suck' or 'I'm a tech, we get a lot of those in here. They're really crappy' or something along those...
