What PS?

I told him that his PSU is adequate for running his setup. It might save him $200; that contributes something. It's not my fault that your icon is a clown, and you didn't read the reviews.

Needs opinions on an LCD screen.

Now that the HP is sold out I would probably go with one of the 22" panels. It should look good for a couple of years plus it costs much less than the Samsung.

I have the HP f2105, which uses the same panel and the 21" wide Samsung. Only complaint so far is that the DVI flickers in games (VGA does not), and the screen is blank on DVI when booting windows. Might be a video card issue. Otherwise, the panel is S-PVA, bright, has vibrant colors, and has...

What do you think would be faster?

The K6-II 450 will almost certainly be faster than both of the others. The processor will first check L1 cache for the data. If the data is not in L1 it will look in L2. I don't know about this specific application, but if you are only running one program the required data will probably fit in...

22" LCD Recommendations

Well, I just bought an HP f2105. It's a year-old model that's 21" and uses a true 8-bit Samsung S-PVA panel. The viewing angle, color quality, blacks, and text sharpness are all fine. The panel supposedly has an 8ms gray to gray response time but THG measured ~22ms using their method. Other...

Pentium 3 board

I had the large electrolytic caps fail on an AOpen MX3S-T board. It doesn't look like AOpen makes the MX3S-T anymore nor any other Pentium 3 board. Does anyone still make a Pentium 3 board (i.e. a recent one that doesn't have bad caps), like for embedded applications? This application...

Performance hit?

Let me put it this way - unless you bench the two machines you probably won't notice much difference, and both will become obsloete at the same time. However, flight sims are usually CPU bound, and it's only $50 or $60 for the extra cache, so why not. Benches

HD Question

Update and questions: Bought a new SCA adapter that is LDV compliant and now I can boot from the Ultra2 controller on the adapter. Now I have a weird problem with the termination. The drive boots without the terminator (weird). That's probably making it run much slower that it should right...

68 pin versus 80 pin scsi ??

Just to update: The U160, LVD compliant SCA adapter made a difference. Now I can use the Ultra2 SCSI controller on my adapter.

What do you think of this power supply?

Your current PS is probably fine anyway, but one thing that (it seems) everyone overlooked about the first PS is that it can put out over 18A on the +12V line. Notice that it has two +12 rails. The manufacturer claims they are "independent," but that it not entirely true. Together, they put out...

Thanks - I was so obsessed with getting an adapter with a terminator that I overlooked the whole compatability issue. Also, I'm new to this and I didn't realize that it actually makes a difference!
