Most of the HSF realated problems stem from:
1. Looking at the bios temp instead of using HWMonitor
2. Unreasonable expectations
3. Incorrect installs ( fan orientation, not TIM )
4. Faulty chip
I don't recall seeing any threads where someone switched from a 212+ or redid their TIM and...
The HSF is held in place by springs on the 4 mounts. It is normal for them to twist with enough pressure. I wouldn't recommend twisting them very much. I can imagine with enough twisting, air bubbles would form in the TIM.
If you don't have anything connected to the Marvel Sata ports, disable it in the bios. It should get rid of this message and the double ASUS boot screen.
My experience with family pc priorities is:
1. Reliable
2. Great everday performance
3. Small, decent looking case
4. Quiet
5. Cool
6. Showoff performance
IMHO, from your specs, it seems like you are addressing 6, before 3-5.
With that in mind, I would scrap the discrete GPU idea. Use the...

I went to Fry's this afternoon and found an Asus P8P67 for $160.
It's not how much weight the cpu can take, its the motherboard. Motherboards with HSF mounting holes for 775 and 1156/1155 may be a little weaker than a board with just single HSF holes. It's usually more of a question of wether the HSF will fit in your case.
You'll probably be getting an email from their customer service saying they do not have it in stock, but expect shipment next week.
I ordered the Extreme4 2 days ago and got the email from cs yesterday. It still shows in stock on their site though. Shady if you ask me.
Whichever one comes up on sale first, go for it. The Antec 430 is pretty solid, and should be able to handle either of those cards at stock. At 1680x1050, you'll get solid performance from either.
I was able to score an EVGA GTX460 768MB SC for $110 last week. I've seen good deals on the...
