Wow. That looks like quite the deal. But I'm concerned... anyone give any credence to the low, low, low ratings for GameVE on PriceGrabber? Are they really so awful or is this just FUD?
Afternoon, gentlemen. Here is the setup:
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
Chaintech VNF3-250
Mushkin 512mb DDR400 3200
I am not going to confess my current video card because I've seen what happens to others who've done so. All you need to know is that I recognize my misguided sin and I am trying to...
Okay. Here's my newest dilemma.
I read about temperature reporting issues on the Chaintech VNF3-250, so I downloaded the latest BIOS to correct it. Prior to the flash, the CPU temp was an astoundingly incorrect 8 degrees Celsius. Afterward, it is reading a more reasonable 40 degrees...
Okay.
Let me add my sad, sad story.
I've thrown together an AMD64 3000+, this Chaintech VNF3-250 and a WD 160GB SATA drive.
Could someone please tell me exactly what I need to have configured in the BIOS to make this work? I can boot from the WinXP CD, it goes through the motions of...
Okay. I have the FX5200 256mb paperweight. Call me what you will, I was looking at the RAM and the fact that it was at least better than the Ti200 that it replaced. Now I know so much more and I understand the error of my ways. Mea Culpa.
It's already installed, I doubt Directron will take...
So if I'm not setting up a RAID and I'm just doing an XP install to a single SATA drive (with my drivers diskette at the ready), I should be happy as happy can be?
And furthermore, I completed the setup today by ordering:
- Hitachi 160GB SATA 7200 (twice as much for less than a third more)
- Mushkin DDRAM 512M|PC-3200
And I'll seek out a replacement video card in a month or so, now that I've heard the bad news about my GeForce FX5200.
So I've ordered the Chaintech VNF3-250. I want to be prepared when it arrives, so I would like to read the manual. But when I look for it on Chaintech's site, there isn't one to be found.

I believe I read something...
So .... um .... anyone have anything good or bad to say about the on-board sound with the Chaintech VNF3-250?
(In other words, should I prepare to transplant my old Soundblaster Live card?)
Okay.
We did it.
Dropped cash on a NewEgg order for the AMD 64 3000+ and the Chaintech VNF3-250.
Thanks for your input and I'll probably be right back on here for more advice on the install.
Excellent advice.
Here's what I'm looking at so far:

Anyone else have anything to say?
Thanks, MechBgon. I'll have you know that I plan on using your photo guide for this build... so thanks in advance.
Sorry about the x-posting. I suppose I was wanting to get those individuals that lurk in one section or the other, but not both. :)
Cool. I was looking at that mobo as well ...
So you'd go with the 3000+ over the 2800+? Some articles say that the performance difference isn't enough to justify the price difference between the two.
