Jason Mick did a bit of investigative work over at DT about this and found some interesting tidbits about the technology. Worth a read.

Yeah I wasn't referring to his application of CLU. I was referring to his observation that the IHS rests directly on the die once the glue/sealant has been removed.
If there is no gap remaining between the IHS and die then there is no need for large amounts of CLU to "fill the gap". YMMV...
Yes I delided my 3770K nearly 2 years ago and it's been cranking along at 4.7GHz ever since. I applied the thinnest amount of CLU I could manage and it worked great. The IHS was resting directly on the die so no gap fill was needed.
This is inline with IDC's observations as well.
That is not an accurate statement. Once the IHS sealant has been removed, the IHS will rest directly on the die. There is no gap.
You only need a very thin coating of CLU applied to both the die and underside of the IHS to make a very good thermal connection.
If AMD hired Jesus Christ as lead architect he still wouldn't be able to pull a miracle out of his hat without proper funding. It matters not what Keller has on his resume. Past accomplishments do not equal future successes, especially when underfunded.
I'm not so sure I completely agree with that statement. The company had a long history of waste during Jerry Sander's time. I believe decisions made long ago prevented AMD from becoming the company it should have been. Ruiz made things much worse though.
A very interesting read on this...
Yes I'm sure Intel will just give up all rights to their IP while getting nothing in return. You can mark your words all you want but it doesn't make it so.
Anyway, I need to get back to work now. It's been fun.
What does that have to do with anything? You really think Intel would be forced to completely scrap all existing x86 designs and start from scratch with a new architecture?
If you are so certain then prove it.
Nope. The agreement only grants use of the cross license agreement to the surviving party. The new buyer would need to negotiate a new agreement with the survivor.
All this talk of x86 patents is patently false. Unless I am grossly misunderstanding the patent legalese, they are only valid for a max of 20 years. So the basic x86 patents should already be available to anyone in this regard.
However modern CPUs have evolved far beyond the limits of basic...
Nonsense. Are you saying the BOM for Mullins is equivalent to Qualcomm or any of the big competitors? Source needed.
AMD's inability to break into this market has nothing to do with Intel. It has everything to do with not having a competitive offering at a competitive price. Why are you not...
