Vista SP2 now available

Won't install for me on x64. SP1 was fine. I'll try running the sp1 cleaner first- as I did not know about that. I suspect that it is something buried in that massive (*sxs*)folder mine's 16 gb! Both windows update and the standalone installer bombed. Now I'm into the remove security apps...

OCing on 8 GB

The next gen of Flight sim (FS11) is not going to arrive until after 2009. They are releasing Train Sim 2 first. NOt the outsouurces Kuju one either, this is a ground up title (www.tsinsider.com) Try FSX :) I love it on my Q6600 4gb, XP32 (Vista 64 in May)

What processor should I put in my new Intel rig?

IF you can't wait- your need is that dire, the Definitely the Q6600. The G0's overclock well if that's your thing. Might even OC better than the 9450. I'm planning on running stock. I don't want to spend lots of time tweaking when I can be doing what I want to do.

What processor should I put in my new Intel rig?

Wait a month or two and go for a Q9450. I'm in the same boat. Five year cycle. I have all of my parts excpet for the HDD, Video and CPU and am waiting for the 9450. Waited this long, and my current rig runs fine.

Windows Vienna in 2009

Recall that MS has stated that they want to shorten the OS upgrade cycle. Here at work, I don't know if I'll be in a position to have Vista deployed by 2009! There's enough dependencies of apps, that it takes forever for them to certify a new OS or service pack (XP SP2 was a nightmare here)...

My bad. I meant 1Tb. I know I can get 750GB's now. It's just not cost effective yet.

That's why I'm waiting until Summer- R600 and what it brings as hardware AND price pressure on other DX10 parts. Plus the rumored Intel cuts and the normal fluctuation of RAM prices. I'm looking for ideas now- I think a Bad Axe 2 will still be ~$200 at that time, and we'll see 1gb HDD's. However

$1000 PC build budget

I have a $1000 budget for everything but OS and case. That means needing CPU, MOBO (Core2 is my choice- but I'll discuss AMD), PSU, 1 optical drive, RAM, video card, HDD. Essentially everything BUT the OS and chassis. It'll be a vista build. I want but do not see how I can pull this...

The prices may be less than stellar, but they are B&M. $370 for the 6600 does not sound too bad (not great either)

GEforce 6800

It seems that is about equal :) I want to see a 6800GT Vs x800 Pro in flight sims (LOMAC and FS2004) IQ in LOMAC seems to be 6800, where hi-res AA+AF is x800, but it to seems to be a wash. Now if I can just get in on one of these off MSRP deals....
