Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

Please stay in the bushes. I've already got some solid responses here (thank you guys!). What I don't care for are "advice" trying to bring me down to an idiot level. Honestly, that's -redacted- insulting. Profanity is not allowed in the tech forums. Daveybrat AT Moderator

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

Dude, please. You clearly have no idea what you're talking about. Others, meanwhile, have provided some very solid answers (a bit heavy on the reading though, but still). I've been overclocking for well over 20 years. While I am unfamiliar with some of the latest strategies, don't take me for a...

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

You're completely missing the point here. I want to limit the voltages while pushing for the highest possible frequencies. Limiting the frequencies to drive down voltages is not the solution. Controlling the voltages is (and last time I looked, the frequency multiplier is not a voltage control).

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

No, it does make a difference. Many loads are lightly threaded. Here is just one example.

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

I understand that lowering the frequencies will result in lower voltages. But again, I'm after maximum performance. Controlling voltages by lowering frequencies is clearly not the way. Would such an offset be added to the V/F curve?

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

Sure, but I'm aiming for the highest frequency at the lowest possible voltages.

Question OC Strategy for 13th Gen?

I've always done manual OC with fixed voltages before. Now I'm thinking it would be nice with a more energy efficient OC, so I'm trying to figure out how adaptive voltages work. Are there any good guides on this? And, what's your preferred strategy? One problem I'm having is that the voltage...

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

Yeah, it's a bit tricky to check without removing the cooler... I'm also thinking that if the frame has been shown to improve temps, then I'd rather just install it straight away. It's not that fun to take the system apart and install the frame later on. Also saw GN's test of Thermaltake's...

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

Thanks! Found GN's review of it. 7C is a pretty good difference, I think I'll want one of those.

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

I mostly run VR, which offers the great feature of being both CPU and GPU limited. Draw calls can murder the CPU, and I typically run resolutions of 4864z2448 (5408x2736 would be considered "native") aiming for 120fps. Suffice to say my 3080 gets to work. --- Can't remember where I saw it...

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

You think it would turn into a collector's item? I'm not so sure, but I won't be selling it. The plan is to use it in my home server, replacing an ancient i7 950.

Question Z690 or Z790 with good USB power?

As I recall, all motherboards I've had for the past 10 years, if not longer, have had some form of extra power delivery. If nothing else shows up I can get the Strix Z390-A, though I would prefer a lower priced option.

Question Z690 or Z790 with good USB power?

I forgot to mention, I'm looking at the more "reasonably" priced motherboards. Cheapest one so far, where I've found USB power delivery mentioned, is the Strix Z790-A. Seems weird no other boards mention this though. I would assume they have some form of USB power delivery. My Gigabyte Z370...

Question Raptor Lake - Official Thread

Aye, the lower latency is nice. Either way I would expect a pretty big upgrade in CPU performance, from my 8086K at 5Ghz. I frequently run into some CPU limitations, so it would be a very noticeable upgrade.

Question Z690 or Z790 with good USB power?

Do you know what, if any, boards have solid a solid USB implementation that can deliver at least 1A? Thing is, I have a Quest 2 HMD that I run off my front panel USB-C port. The Quest 2 does not like to play nice with USB, especially if the ports can't deliver steady power.
