Upside of the mining craze (from someone who entirely missed out on the bubble) My old GTX 970 that I never got around to selling is suddenly worth way more than it otherwise would have been. I need to sell it right away.

7700k running too hot!

Maybe you need a more aggressive fan profile? Idle temps seem fine, but it shouldn't get that high under load. I'm running a 7700k in a SFF PC with limited cooling, and even that doesn't get above 80 degrees running Prime 95.

Spending Money & Happiness

Happiness is relative. I may have a 6-figure salary now, but I'm just as bored and lonely as I've ever been. Albeit bored and lonely with the thermostat set higher, much better food, and all the god damn videogames I could ever want. Not "happiness" per say, but money sure did fix the cold...

Do you still use optical media?

Not really. I've found myself watching streaming versions of stuff that I own on Bluray, just because it's a lot more convenient (no front-loaded trailers/menus/juggling the disk/slow player interface/etc) And for backups... I switched from disks to external hard drives long ago. Rsync'ing the...

"QUIET" gaming mouse? Any ideas?

Get one with capacitive buttons like the Apple Magic Mouse It may not be the greatest gaming mouse, but it will make no clicking noise (aside from your finger hitting a plastic surface)

Have you sped up your upgrade cycle, slowed it down, or neither?

Looking at CPU history, I've upgraded about every 5 years. It used to be because I couldn't afford it, and with my current CPU (a 2500K) it's because the speed increases haven't been worth it. I bought the 2500k about a year after its release, so if I were to keep with the pattern, I'd upgrade...

PlayStation 4 Pro SoC Discussion

I'm mostly hoping for UHD disk support and 60fps @ 1080 for existing and future titles (especially Bloodborne). Deliver that, and they've sold me a PS4k. (I do not currently own a PS4)

Possible hidden gem: Undertale

I bought this one shortly after launch because of hearing how systems in the game mess with the player. It's really quite good, and probably the closest thing that we'll get to a successor to Earthbound anytime soon. I'm very glad that I bought it, and it's at least my favorite budget title...

Gaming 30 years from now

I think that it's more likely to change fundamentally as opposed to any whiz-bang new graphics or ever-increasingly large worlds. While we *can* keep throwing in more polys, and probably will, visual fidelity, generally speaking, is more limited by artistic direction than technology these days...

Ultima 1-3 worth playing?

The Me of 20 years ago had an extremely rough time with Ultima 2 and 3, though I managed to beat Ultima 1. The trick was to find a town where you could steal and successfully escape without fighting the guards... Made my life much easier. I mostly remember that The Ultima Collection release...

Considering a SMALL Skylake build. Would love advice.

I have an EVGA Hadron-based build: Intel 4790k ASUS GTX 970 Seasonic SS-500L1U 500w PSU (much quieter than stock, though only one PCI-E adapter) Quiet, space-efficient, and one heck of a powerhouse.

My PC isn't silent but it's pretty quiet: CPU Cooler: SILVERSTONE HE02 (passive) VGA cooler: Arctic Accelero Xtreme III VGA card: GTX 970 SSD (no HDD) Case fan: Noctura NF-S12B PSU: Seasonic SS-760XP It rarely audibly spins up under gameplay, and the lone case fan is directly above the CPU...

Titanfall: Season Pass is Free

Well, it gives me a reason to give Titanfall another go, at least. Maybe I'll even get into the Campaign mode so that I can get the other Titan chassis. ...Not bloody likely, though.
