Verizon DSL doesn't use PPPOE client. How do I turn off the web?

Why would anyone want to use PPPoE? It appears to be something that really only works to limit your connection to the net, and leave control of your usage in the hands of the ISP. As others have said, you can release/renew IP, and get a router they are cheap these days.
