I was getting really high stock temps on my i5 750 until I changed the CPU voltage setting from Auto to Normal (I believe that's what it was called) on my Gigabyte P55A-UD4P. Might want to check on your voltage, because that brought my temps down at least 10c at load.
But if you're hitting...
Yes on x64. I have two different H55N-USB3 systems in Silverstone cases (one HTPC, one Sugo 3), both with i3 530's and similar G.Skill RAM. One I use the onboard video, the other has an old 8800GT in it - both are functionally equivalent as far as running 1080p video. Quite happy with them!
I've been looking at a similar build - and am intrigued by mini ITX. Here's what I am considering, along a similar price point to you:
Mobo - Gigabyte GA-H55N-USB3 ($105)

CPU - Intel Core i3 540 ($105 after instant rebate)...
My brother had a similar issue... he was trying to install a many-years old copy of XP and the service packs from scratch. The problem was that he got infected almost immediately while he was waiting for the various windows updates to download - even after a few fresh install attempts. The...
Another yes. I have a 5850, i5 750 o/c, 3 drives, 4 fans, etc. And I hardly break 250w under a regular gaming load. I'm using a 500w power supply, as well (PCP&C).
I just got a couple samsung spinpoint F3s and I'm quite happy with them. 500GB, single platter, fast, quiet.

You could try the new Samsung 24x drive?

And I say stick with the Spinpoint F3 drives - I'd opt for the 1TB version if possible, but the 500GB is good, too.
I had this issue before with my 5850 and WEI. I would have GPU-z open and watch the core/mem speeds and sometime during the WEI test, it would down-clock me from stock clocks to 400/900 - and after the WEI test was over, the card would still be at 400/900 (not the usual 157/300 of 2D mode)...
Not sure. I don't see the clone/extend option in the CCC, but it is in the windows control panel. When using clone, I'm limited to the same resolution (it's grayed out) on my monitor (1680x1050) and TV (1280x720), which makes my TV flip out when I select 1680x1050. Not really helping, other...
what monitor resolution? Whatever the case, I think the 5850 would be a great purchase. I've had my Sapphire 5850 since launch day and couldn't be happier. But I'm just on an E8400 (from a 8800GTS to a 4830 o/c to the 5850). I haven't really found a game it can't crush. Mine just has a mild...
Don't you want to ideally stay in the 40-60% load range for the most efficiency from any power supply? If that's the case, there is such a thing as overkill (from a cost per watt standpoint) I would say... unless things have changed recently.
