NEC 3500 firmware

I can feel the flames headed my way but I'm thick skinned and kinda thick headed but I need to know, searched for "firmware" did not find anything related ,read articles at videohelp so flame away-bought a NEC 3500 (thanks guys for the recommendation) plan to use clonedvd/anydvd do I still need...
