Newbie questions on heatsink fans

If you haven't already, you also might just try getting the lower CFM Scythe with the heatsink and see how loud it is -- just plug it into a fan header on your mobo. With that heatsink, a good fan (even lower CFM), and your modest goal of a 20% overclock, I doubt you will have any temperature...

Thermalright Ultima 90 is out :)

Heatsinkfactory now shows as "in stock", so you can actually order the ultima-90. Unfortunately, it also says ETA Of 8/7, so you won't be able to get it right away.

e6600 temps

Is intel speed step turned off in the bios? You might see it referred to as EIST or something like that. You might even try 1.3v for your CPU. A lot of these e6600s can do 3gHz at stock or mild over-volt, so it might be worth a try. With a Ninja, I would think you could get in the 50s on...

No worries. I should have been more specific about what I was asking for. What does the voltage say in CPUz? Also, does CPUz say 9x for multiplier, or is that your setting in the bios? It is possible that some of the intel throttling/power saving features are still turned on in your bios...

Which program is reporting the correct core temps?

I would agree. I have seen set-up guides for SpeedFan that says you need to give the cores a 15C offset (i.e. add 15 degrees) in order to get accurate temps. I'm not sure exactly why, tbh.

Finally got the Enzotech Ultra-X

I have the same mobo. There is about 52mm of space between the center of the cpu socket and the edge of the mobo. If there is another 5mm between the edge of the mobo and the PSU divider, then you have 57mm, or a total dimension of 114mm to work with. This is confirmed as I have read about...

Review request Thermalright Ultima-90

I asked TR for a release date a few weeks ago and they said sometime in mid-June. No hard release date....but hopefully sometime in the next couple weeks.

EVGA 680i MOBO 4-Pin Power connector (PWR3)

From what eVGA has said, the 4-pin molex connector provides additional power to the PCIe slots. As SteelSix said, you really only have to use it if you have SLI or run a second PCIe card. Should have nothing to do with cpu/mem, but if you find that your PC is more stable with it plugged in...

Lian li PC-101, PC-B20, PC-A10, or the old V1000/1100 plus cases. Help me out.

I'm a little surprised about the V1000. As I mentioned above, my 620 fits in the PSU chamber in the PC-101, as long as you remove the PSU divider (between the hard drive rack and psu). I have enough room to get the big ATX power cable over the modulars, out the opposite side of the case and...
