It depends. Without explaining everything, the easiest thing to do is get Win98SE and use internet sharing and then you can use a hub. This is the cheapest easiest route and really all that you need.

Download SnifferPro from Network Associates, Install it on you PC, plug your PC in the swtich where your traffic is located and run sniffer pro, analyze data. Analyzing data is another story though...
Well, assuming there are 10 connections on each hub, the main bottle necks will be the connections in between the hubs. You have 10 people on a hub and if they were to theoretically trasmit data all at the saem time to the next hub of users, and you only had one connection between the hubs...
