Under $500 build

My Dad's computer died and I need to build him a new one. It was a Gateway P3 500. The things I can salvage include the hard drive, then all external things (monitor, keyboard,...) I am going to use Newegg and need advice since I have not built since my P4 1.6A. I like the following name brands...

19" monitors for gaming?

I love my Sony. It is a G400 from Sams Club for about $300. Crisp, clear, clean. Almost sounds like a beer commercial...LOL...Sony makes great CRT monitors. GO SONY!

Axim and wireless surfing

I don't have wireless on my Axim b/c I just hooked up the WAP and getting a laptop for surfing. I can tell you the Axim has been great for me. The screen size and color is very nice and my Avantgo web page look and navigate just great. Sorry could not help more but let me know after you do go...

Does this Notebook exist - If not, why not?

I ordered the Compaq x1000 with close to those specs. for about $2000 w/ 3 yr warranty. It shipped today so I'll know more soon. :D

Notebook reviews and comparisons?

Anyone found any articles etc that compare notebooks? All I found was one in PC World and it really did not have many of the notebooks I am curious about. Any links are appriciated. Thanks

Alright thanks for the info. I thought those beasts would not only be heavy but also loud. I like the 8600 so far. This is damn tough though. Thanks again all any additional info is apprciated.

Hey thanks. I think w/ 512+ Ram and 1.6+ on processor CAD should run smooth like it does at home w/ similar specs. I do worry about that 16mb video card though. Thanks again and keep em comin. :beer: BTW Your Dad had good luck w/ Dell Cutimer Service huh? Not what I've heard but good to know.

Yea I have seen the hype here on the T40. Anyone had a Presario x1000? I could get into a P4 1.5m w/ 512 etc etc. one for under 2k.
