The Venice was the first A64 chip that could handle 4 banks filled at DDR400 speed, and even then it has to step down from 1T to 2T command rate.

Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 & 64 Pro @ xbitlabs

I got one to replace my AC Freezer64, the fan seized up on that after only a year. The Freezer64 Pro is working fine so far.

Hm, doesn't Mercury's rotation keep the same side facing the sun all the time? If all that energy hitting the light side isn't baking the entire planet, then that implies there's a middle, twilight zone between the light side and the dark side. If any of the light are dark regions are too harsh...

I have a theory

Those timings are expressed in clock cycles, but obviously they have to correlate to actual time intervals in seconds (or nanoseconds, as the case may be). DDR400 memory at CL2.5 means the latency 2.5 x .0025 microseconds, or 2.5*2.5nanoseconds, or 6.25 nanoseconds. You could run the same memory...

SuperPI Contest!!!

I saved 27 seconds using Ar Soft RAMdisk, 128MB, dropped my time to 29:12. Given the size of the temp files, I'm a bit surprised it wasn't any faster. Most likely the RAMdisk software isn't optimized for high speed block memory copies.

overclock on A64 3000+

Ok, that's fine. I'm now getting 29:12 for 32M SuperPi. Winchester 3000+ @2537, HTT=281.96,Memory=211.47. If I cross the line to 282MHz HTT I get roundoff errors in SuperPi. Anyway, 2.5GHz is plenty fast for the work I'm doing. (mainly gcc...)

PIII Slot 1 CPU Questions: Upgrade Options

I just tossed out my old PIII system into the dumpster last week. It was originally running a 500MHz PIII, I replaced it with a PowerLeap Tualatin 1.3GHz PIII a couple years ago. Last month the system died, wouldn't beep or POST, so I bought my current A64 system to replace it. I didn't bother...

The older generation of A64s have different clocks than the Winchester. I already posted my results in the A64 quick'n'dirty thread. So another question, it seems everyone's using these piddly little amounts of memory in their systems to get these fantastic speeds. I have two 512MB sticks...

Quick and dirty A64 clocking guide **UPDATE** X2 OC information!

Thanks for this guide, it made things (almost) painless (I only locked up and had to reset CMOS once...) Asus A8V-Deluxe (Rev 2.00), A64 3000+ (Winchester) Running at 260x9, memory is at 5:3 (~212MHz), HTT is set to "800" in the BIOS which I think gives me 1040. The memory is a Kingmax...
