I have found plenty of external harddrives from various manf. that claim to spin the drive down during inactivity.. I'm just not sure if that is regulated by an OS driver/utility/etc., or if it is integrated into the PCB in the enclosure itself.
Most of the drive enclosures I have found that are highly rated include fans, can be setup as hot-swapable, etc. etc. but I can't seem to find information if the control board in the enclosure performs spindown of the drive when not in use. I would like this to be a function of the external...
If this is a database server I would go with RAID 10 (aka RAID 1+0) for performance reasons. Also, you will want to make sure if it is available to utilize separate scsi channels for the RAID1 members.
I have an Epox EP-8KHAL AMD Athlon 1600+ with 512 MB 2100 CL 2.5 DDR Crucial Ram.
I am wanting to spend no more than $100. I currently have a Radeon LE (32DDR).
Thanks for the suggestions.
Well, I guess I am assuming that I would need the same router on both sides? The Sonicwall pro 200 looks like what most people are suggesting. Not quite out of my budget. I was hoping for something around $500 per LAN. But I guess you get what you pay for!
All good information (not a suggestion to stop or anything)!! Thanks!
Bart, site B is really going to have 1 active user hitting the main LAN. Is DSL still going to pose a problem? Also, the majority of the work isn't going to be fileserving.. but our client-server backoffice program, Great...
Do the SonicWall appliances allow the traffic to split depending on destination (www vs. LAN)? Or would all traffic from the fullfillment office go through the VPN tunnel to the main office and out from there? It seems silly to do it that way if I am not wanting to setup a single point of web...
Okay any hardware/software advice would be much appreciated. I know a tad about VPN's etc but have never set one up. I work for a small company with ~ 15 employees. We are getting ready to split up our operations to have a Retail/Main offices and Shipping/Recieving/Fullfillment in another...
According to Microsoft the 604/614+ are not supported. I read a post from DlinkSupport where they mentioned that they were doing Beta testing at Redmond and the routers do work with Xbox Live.
Can anyone confirm this? I would like to know before my ability to take my 604 back to BestBuy runs...
I just recently purchased the D-link DI-604. I switched out my 5port 10B-T hub and powercycled my cable modem and in less than 2 minutes was browsing the web on all my pcs in my home LAN. I wouldn't Highly recommend this router for it's features (although they are nice..). I would recommend...
Okay, I just recently purchased the very inexpensive D-Link 604. I did so 100% because of its price. It was < $30 at BestBuy (after rebate). I was also looking at the linksys BEFSX41 which has true VPN & DMZ but cost 3x as much. I decided to save the extra money and am happy with my choice...
