I just used the thermal pad, not AS3 with it. You are saying I should remove the entire pad and just use AS3?

SOLUTION: Keep fan running after shutdown

Fenris summed up what I was going to say. I don't see how your CPU would get hotter right after shutdown. No additional heat into the system. Maybe I'm making an assumption here though. Is your CPU the hottest thing in your system? If the answer is no, maybe the heat that was being pushed...

LAN party and W3

I have about 8 people coming over for a LAN party and one of the games we are planning on playing is W3. I and at least 3 of the others have purchased the game, not sure about the remainder. Can you play like W2 with 2 people per CD on a LAN or does everyone have to own a copy? Thx

How do you think the new ATi card is gonna stack up??

Well, the review is up and it looks like the card kicks arse (though I didn't like that they don't know what the core and memory will be clocked at yet.) Still $399 retail, ouchies. Think I will wait to see how the NV30 is priced.

Pentium 5? AMD has Hammer in production already

One thing to throw in the hopper (I know all this is pointless, but I am bored at work) is that Intels 64-bit processor will not be backward compatible, it will have to run 32-bit applications through software emulation. Which, as I understand it, will make it very slow in 32-bit. AMDs...

Thoughts on P4's increasing popularity?

Good point about the hammer. If it is good, you will see the tide shift again. IMO, the whole thing boils down to price versus performance. When the P4 first came out it was damn pricey AND you had to buy into RDRAM which was also pricey. To boil it all down, you could buy an athlon system...

Is Arctic Silver II worth the money?

I saw a 2-3 degree (C) drop going to ASII from the freebie white paste stuff. On one hand, 2-3 degrees probably means nothing to my CPU, but it does make me feel better. And you can get a syringe of the stuff for ~$5, which will easily do 10+ CPUs. That is 50 CENTS a CPU, not really a budget...

LCD woes...

I have a GEMSTAR GL- 821A which I got from newegg.com. It is rated at a 25ms response time (but as someone previously mentioned, every manufacturer seems to measure that differently, it doesn't mean much). Anyway it is good for games. I haven't seen any ghosting at all during normal FPS play...

Reasonably priced 17" LCD?
