why does my 90nm A64 run at 57 under prime?

tired of MSI dynamic overclocking program

I did try the insert key, but I couldn't get the system to respond. I usually use a wireless USB keboard... next time I'll make sure to use the wired PS2 keyboard. Either way I still find it easier to boot into Windows and step slowly up to a maxium FSB from one boot rather than rebooting...

FWIW I have found Clockgen to be a useful tool in determining your maximum OC. I originally started using the Bios directly... after the second time my system wouldn't boot without reseting the CMOS I decided there must be a better way. I go into my Bios and set memory timings, voltages...

If I was really worried, I would get a temperature sensor as close to the CPU as possible and use that as a reference to calibrate the offset. Still a guess... just a closer one... since you can't duplicate the position of the temp diode in the cpu. I don't ever use C&Q (certainly not...

I agree that without outside confirmation the number is just that a freaking guess... So the real fix needs to come from MSI (never said otherwise). The problem is that every time I reboot the system reports a different cpu offset. So which one is right? If I cold boot and the offset is 61...

Wrong temps?

Problems experienced on Abit, ASUS, MSI, Epox Motherboards (probably others). Supposedly AMD changed something about how the temperature value is to be read and calibrated from the Athlon 64, but did not notify MB manufacturers. Several MB manufacturers have fixed this already via an updated...

I have a winchester, but the problem was originally discovered on the newcastles. First time I heard that the winchesters have a lower max core temp than the newcastles. Good to know when considering max acceptable temp under load when OCing.

Happens regardless of monitoring software... CC, SF or MBM5 This is because the BIOS does the offset calibration during bootup. So when the monitoring software (even in BIOS) reads the temp it is adjusted by the offset. I have run BIOS 1.4 and 1.5 same problem. Others before me have seen...
