yeah, go with something nice and simple to understand the basics then move onto more heavy stuff. maybe start with some web scripting? php is very simple. javascript on the client side? then onto c, c++ and take over the world!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.....................:)

How do you setup linux display manually?

I believe that you can also set this up using /etc/lilo.conf and then running lilo by setting the parameter vga. various resolutions can be set eg 800x600 etc................... check out "man lilo.conf" I do also recall using xf86config for this but the lilo.conf is nice and straight...

Which OS is best suited for a slow laptop?

Go for a small linux distro, such as slackware! :) search on google for info on ultra small linux installs on laptops - you are not alone with this situation.............. good luck!

I'm with bingbongwongfooey here, I don't see apache is difficult. You can get an installer file for windows. Version 2 is out which is actually made more for the windows platform. There's never been a better time to move from IIS! Personally I found IIS a bit odd, what with all the config...

crisp82 as an addition to eaglekeeper's very helpful reply, you need to make a list of each type of item and then use the process of "normalisation" to rationalise these into tables where data can be stored with the minimal amount of repetition. You may already know a bit about normalisation...
