Brand New Pioneer DVR-110 is Out!

I'm kinda curious if this is the DVR-110 or the DVR-110D. The ones that have shown up in Japan are the DVR-110D and do NOT support DVD-RAM.

DVD-R Dual Layer

Double.. dual.. it's the same thing. As far as DVD-R DL goes, I have not heard of any new drives from NEC or Pioneer yet. However, Plextor Japan has said that the PX-716A will be getting support for it as early as December. Of course, this doesn't mean squat if media isn't available.

No. They're looking into it supposedly, but don't count on it happening. Price drop on Aug 5th? Keep dreaming. I think $10 a disc is as cheap as you're going to see until the fall or winter. By then, el-cheapo DVD+R DL media from Ritek and CMC will flood the market. No one will want to pay...

IDE configuration question

No, its not an issue any more. Are you really going to be ripping directly from DVD-ROM to your DVD writer? If not, I'd put it on IDE2.

I hate to break it to you, but that's not possible. Even with CAV, drives probably won't go beyond 16x. They just can't spin any faster. That's the reason why you don't see any DVD-ROM drives that read at anything faster than 16x.

I've heard that Elvis is alive and lives with Tupac in New Jersey. I've been hearing DL upgrade rumors for months now and so far all they are are rumors and speculation. I've talked to many drive manufacturers and most have said that while their drives will probably be able to read DL discs...

NEC 2500a 8x DVD+-RW

NEC doesn't have a retail presence here in the US. They sell their drives only to OEM's like Pacific Digtal or through the grey market.

ETA for the Plextor 712 12x DVD+RW drive?

When I talked to Plextor last week they said Best Buy stores should have them on the 11th. I'm guessing other retailers will get them about the same time. The SATA version is expected to be released later this month.

It's the standard Nero 6 OEM suite with NeroExpress. btw.. Sony has dropped the suggested retail price of the DRU-700A down to $199.99. I wouldn't pay any more than that. You can preorder it through Sony for $199.99
