USB implementations vary vastly.
In my experience, Intel's ICH10 chipset provides the best USB throughput. With a single 93GB file (steam backup) it will transfer at around 35 MB/sec.
ICH8 and 9 in my netbook and hybrid are slower but not by a whole lot.
AMD chipsets, as with my phenom...
Many people are ignorant sheep.
I've run both vista, xp, and 7 beta on lots of lower end hardware including my dell mini 9 netbook and both Vista and 7 are identically fast in my experience. From my testing with older hardware 7 beta does little to no to improve performance on older hardware...
I have a studio 540. It comes with the 350Watt Delta Unit which has a decent rating on the +12v rail (not opening my case to check what it is though.)
It came thusly configured:
Q9400
8GB DDR2-800
750GB Hitachi
Radeon HD3650 (yuck)
Hauppauge 1250 tuner (doesn't work with >4GB ram...
It's a fine system but not to be used to replace what you have. The ECC memory does have a slight performance penalty but 2x S940 Opteron with DCDDR-400 will have the same memory bandwidth as an 800Mhz fsb Core 2 Duo.
The memory bandwidth and latency are not a problem, the CPUs are very solid...
That was misinformation. That originator of that 'story' later stated that his own information was false. The software he was using to read the capacity of the battery was misreporting. When he actually ran battery life tests, the battery that was reporting the lower capacity actually lasted...
I had an aspire one and returned it quickly.
Like most other Acer notebooks, the fan was TRASH. It would likely be dead in a year or grinding badly. It was loud and annoying....all the time. The aspire one fan forum has created a utility that will shut it off completely but with no adequate...
False.
Many solid state components can make noise.
It's not at all uncommon for power regulation circuitry to make very high pitched whining noises. This can come from either the power supply itself or the capacitors surrounding a CPU. This is a fairly well known issue with speedstep and...
