I don't think he's in a bad situation. He can go used or new i5 4670k/4690k if he's willing to OC a bit and 4790k if he's not. If he goes the i5 K Haswell route then he can reassess if he wishes when Kaby Lake comes out. But then again I like tinkering with stuff. I'm not sure I would...
Hmm you really went bare minimum with the board there huh? :'( The good news is although your board wasn't suppose to support overclocking Intel did a weird thing and released the Pentium G3258. Once released they wanted to allow people to overclock the G3258 on cheaper boards so they allowed...
i5-6xx chips are just i3-5xx chips with a turbo mode which is pretty useless when overclocking. Many of them do overclock pretty well in the 4.4 to 4.8 range but if you don't have a board its better just to sell them.
I believe he has a p55 board. But no difference in overclocking with P or H. P just allows support of multiple gpus while H has integrated video outputs. The Xeon X34xx cpus are a much better buy then the i7s. Upgraded my cousin a month ago from an i3-540 to a X3440 for $25 and oc'ed it...
As other have said you need to oc that cpu. If you can remove the cpu without having to remove your motherboard from the case I would also consider buying a Xeon x3440 and selling the i5 750. Its essentially a free upgrade if you are willing to do the work. That will give you the equivalent...
If you don't have a Microcenter near you I would consider grabbing a new P7H55D-M EVO board off ebay ($80). Then getting a used Xeon X3440 ($25). Its essentially a lower clocked i7 860. But from my experience with them they are actually binned better and require less volts for the same...
I agree with the others on a gpu. But a i5-4670k for $240? I assume you are buying new at that price. So why not look at an i5-4690k? They are just about identical but the refresh always has better resale value.

The i5-3570 non-k goes used for just over $100 and can be overclocked to 4ghz to 4.1ghz (if you want to play with the base clock). There isn't a logical reason to hold on to a 1100T unless you simply dread doing a...
Don't see how its throwing $75 away. You can flip it for a $10 to $15 loss at most. Or buy it from a seller that accepts returns. Then its like a $3-$5 loss.
It looks like it does support ivy with bios update. But you can't overclock a 3570k because only motherboards with a p67, z68 or z77 chipset will allow you to overclock a k-series chip. You have a H61 board.
