Recent computer build - Nothing works, why?

I just helped a friend build a system. It worked fine for several days, including bioshock / guildwars, but then it crashed and windows wouldn't boot / had issues booting. Now the Windows Vista CD crashes too, I have Linux Isos and they don't work - what could be the problem? I've tried two...

Widespread Power Saving Woes

I'm running a Core 2 Duo overclocked to 3.25 ghz, a largish 24" LCD and a really mammoth 21" CRT, plus a large metal receiver which powers a hulking pair of floorstanding speakers. This lot probably uses more power then an underclocked Duron, I figure. I know the LCD alone is rated at 100+...

Thanks. I forgot to mention, but the RAM and Power Supply each have rebates - the power supply is $5 after rebate, RAM is $40. I thought about that motherboard, but it only has four USB slots. Anyone got an opinion on the Biostar board?

Older Intel Motherboard Compatibility with Newer Stock HSF

My dad has an older (Pentium 2.8 ghz singlecore era) Intel motherboard (ABIT IC7) and the fan died. I have the stock heatsink fan for my core 2 duo from when I upgraded to a better version, but it isn't immediately apparent that it will fit - the motherboard appears to have the correct holes...

I have an e6300 with good case cooling (intake/exhaust). I originally had the stock fan with a crappy Asrock mobo back when RAM was obcenely expensive, but I saw a good deal on mobo/RAM at newegg recently and picked em up - along with cooler master hyper-3 ($30 something?) It was rated 5/5...

Supreme Commander demo available

I've played Dune 2k, Total Annihilation, Starcraft, Homeworld, Empire Battle for Dune, Age of Empires, AOE2, AOE2 Conquerors, AOE3, Red Alert, Red Alert 2, Dawn of War, and all the expansion packs. I've played Warcraft 3 a LOT. None of them have come close to Supreme Commander for me...

3dmark 2006 scores show major graphics problem

I'm running an E6300 @ 2 ghz with a 6600 GT. It's well cooled, has all relevant drivers (Forceware 93.71, tried multiple reinstalls) and running 3dmark 2006 gets me around 60% of the video card performance I've gotten before and have recorded on ORB. Getting 3.5 FPS in game tests instead of...

Need recommendations for AM2 Kit!

I'm likely to be throwing together some parts for a guy I know; I built him a computer, he's happy with it, but now he wants to upgrade his backup computer. He's not an Intel fan, so I was thinking of throwing him an AM2 box; he can always leapfrog it forward to k8l / quad core a coupla years...
