What are the performance requirements? IOP/s, DB size, rear/write %, etc...

-mirror the boot drive
-have the pagefile on a different partition unless worried about BSOD's
-keep heavy writes off of SSD - "heavy transactional log drive"
-separate raid sets for DB...
for the amount of data being backed up NAS disk based backups will work well.

running server grade hardware is awesome, been doing it for years in my home lab. However, I recently switched to some good consumer grade hardware and get better overall performance.
