his budget is between 600-800US. He would like it to run smoothly, but not all settings high is necessary. Great suggestion Ringtail, but I'm a single Dad of 4 boys. He's been saving his own money for it. If I matched him, I'd have to match all the kids :-/ that's not gonna happen even...

Hello all! My son (12) is looking to spend his own money on a laptop. He is starting to learn coding, and will be using it for that, web surfing, light online gaming (minecraft) and would also like the option to play skyrim (if possible). I'm thinking the last game option will put his cost...

After thinking about it and looking at the funds I thought it would be better to wait and figured some parts would be upgraded and prices would definitely change. Thanks for the help and knowledgeable advice...I'll be back ;-)

Yeah dunno what Eyefinity is or if i'd use it haha! The one you priced out...quiet? Since it's main use will be for home/media it does need to be pretty quiet. I'll pull the trigger on this in mid January...hopefully that will not make a difference in the parts/based on date.

hmmm...wow! So I need to upgrade the GPU to at least a 760? That puts me at an additional $250+. Even if I cut it down to 8gb that only drops me roughly $80 I was trying to stay within a $900-1000 budget. I'm transferring over 6TB of storage from my current build.

i didn't have an option of 12gb otherwise I would have gone with that. Under task manager I just did a quick add and i'm at almost 1/2 of ram with just a quick addition and I don't have a lot running currently either. even IF I cut the ram down in 1/2 that's still not keeping me in the same...
