^^ yes, something is wrong, but I doubt it's your drivers. More likely WEI. Check what your GPU clock speeds are in GPU-z before, during, and after running WEI. My 5850 gave me scores of 6.0, 7.0 and 7.7 on various runs. And the WEI also caused my clocks to go down to 400/900 (and stay there...
I'm using the Win 7 backup and using the backup files & create system image (just C:) options. It seems to do this on a weekly schedule, by default. Though I haven't tried to restore files, so I'm not sure you can choose which files/folders you want. Probably not.
Granted, I haven't done any rigorous dB testing, but it is a very quiet card. The only time I hear it is during startup when the fan spins up briefly. It's quieter than my 4830 was, and cooler. Highest temp it hit was 76C in the Heaven DX11 benchmark and more like high 60's or low 70's...
Do it. I'm using my 5850 to power my monitor & LCD tv via HDMI. I'm going to pick up a 2nd 24" monitor and get that running via display port in the nearish future. I'm using the reference Sapphire card and it really doesn't need improved cooling as far as I can tell. It's whisper quiet and...
Is there any reason why getting Acronis Trueimage would be superior to just using the included Windows 7 system image (+ restore disc) utility? I assume it has more features?
Both have been offered for $29.99 since the student deal was offered. There was some kind of little side-bar thing that said you could get Professional instead of Home Premium if your university required it due to the extra networking features included. You just had to select that option.
Processor: 6.8 (E8400 @ 3.51)
Memory: 7.0 (4GB DDR2 @ 1040)
Graphics: 7.7 (HD 5850 @ 775/1125)
Gaming Graphics: 7.7
HD: 5.8 (74GB WD Raptor 10k)
Weird thing is that my graphics scores have ranged anywhere from 6.0 each to 7.0 to 7.7. Very unpredictable.
I'm starting to think (maybe this was stated explicitly and I missed it) that the student upgrade is actually the full version of 7 and different from the general-public upgrade packages, which the MVP was maybe referring to. All I could say is that you octuple-check the CD key (I'm sure you...
I fully agree - it's inane that they would make Joe Average jump through the iso creation hoop to make a bootable DVD. For what it's worth, the install disc via OSCDIMG worked without issue.
I did a clean install on an old but reformatted drive - also with the win7 64 professional student upgrade. I was running win7 RC beforehand, reformatted the hard drive, did a custom install from a DVD/iso, and it accepted my key fine. I would tend to think that there's a problem with your key...
I've downloaded all the upgrade files this morning from Digital River for x64 Professional:
setup1.box (2.66GB)
setup2.box (160MB)
Win7-P-Retail-en-us-x64.exe (75.9MB)
Just have to figure out how to get around the upgrade problems others have reported. I guess I'll use a x64 machine to...
There appear to be lots of people having issues with the student upgrade when trying to go from x86 to 64-bit professional. Seems like Digital River really screwed things up here... a simple .iso would have been nice:

I just bought a WD Black 1TB recently. Nice drive, and it's joining two 640GB blues that have worked well for me for almost a year and a half. But I probably would have picked up a Samsung Spinpoint F3 if I knew about it - it's a 2x500GB platter design and apparently out-performs the WD Black...
