    SSD, worth it?

May be worth it in a laptop?? A good SSD will transform your laptop in a way that almost no other upgrade currently can. It's like going from 128MB to 2GB of RAM - the difference is that substantial. Yeah, a good SSD like the Intel is expensive, but I bet you've spent that much or more on...

    OCZ Vertex Review

Well, to be fair, " NOBODY should buy any storage device and think the data in it is safe."

    OCZ Vertex

Beta or lemons, it's really just semantics. The products they (and many other SSD producers) are selling are simply not finished or suitable for market. The fact that they are releasing regular updates to the Vertex firmware means they are trying - but in a rush to market they are skipping the...

    OCZ Vertex

Agreed. The OCZ support forum is full of users who can't even get their OS to install on the drive. OCZ SSD drives are currently beta products with the consumers doing the testing with no ability to return the drives if they don't work as advertised. (I know - I'm stuck with a pretty much...

    I have Sennheiser HD580's w/o Amp

You'll get a much, much better answer to this question at Head-Fi. Owning the 580's myself, I know that they respond very very well to an amp, but how much that matters to you for gaming is hard to say.

Is this a good choice for updating my system?

I'm more than competent at building my own systems, but frankly, I don't feel like sorting through all the motherboard/cpu/ram combinations out there, as it has been a few years since I've built one. I want to upgrade my system, as my current celeron 1.5/soyo7vba133u is exhibiting signs of...

    Speed Non Increase

Yup, that's why I'm still running on a 1.4 celeron. I finally upgraded to 900 mb of ram so I could run multiple users at once on xp. The only thing I'd like a faster processor for is ripping cd's, but the cd collection is already done, so I don't have to rip more than 1 or 2 at a time very...

Getting information off a busted RAID array

Wait, you went with a Raid 0 for safety??? Sounds like you're screwed. Next time go with Raid 1!!!

Looking to get a 250gh hd

I would go ATA rather than dealing with the extra hassle of the add-on PCI card. Personally, I'd stay away from Maxtor drives. Of course someone has had a bad experience with every brand, but the only 2 drives I've ever had fail have been maxtor's, and they are quite a bit louder than most...

    Need help evaluating LCD monitors

I just picked up an LG L1920P from BestBuy after looking at many 19" LCD's. It was about $600 w/ $150 in mail in rebates. It is one of the nicest monitors I have seen. Other than the Apple displays, it's the only display that has made me consider giving up my 19" Sony Trinitron CRT.

Is there a way to use a pcmcia card on a desktop PC?

You do know that you don't NEED a card for wireless broadband, right? All you need is a 1x compatible phone, the $40 usb cable/software kit, and your standard minutes. Of course if it is going to be your only connection, you'll want their unlimited data plan, but you could still get by with...

How to get External Hard drive to spin down?

Well I've gone with the timer switch option for now. This computer has an Asus K8V SE board in it. Does anyone know if this board supports the suspend of USB disks?

Someone recommend me a SATA pci controller with Raid 0....

I'd highly recommend a card made by LSI Logic. They are very reasonably priced, and if you do need support with setup issues or whatnot, their service is top-notch. A real tech answers the phone (no automated systems), and their techs actually really know what they are talking about. Great...

    Copying whole hard drive? HELP

Microsoft has a program that will "prep" a Windows drive for transfer to a new system or motherboard. I can't remember what it's called, but I know it exists. That would probably require that drive to be up and running on your old board though. Looks like you might have rushed things a bit.
