A few questions about "gaming" laptop's.

I play hl2 on my 15.4" asus laptop with a radeon 9700 at medium to high settings(no aa etc). This was about top of the line when hl2 first came out. hehe, i've never even played hl2 on a desktop:D It looks pretty darn good, and no stuttering. I think most laptop gpu's today will fare pretty well...

paypal, check, money order, local computer stores, etc. We've told you how to buy a new computer w/o a Platinum Amex CC, wtf is the problem? Some have even told you exactly how to "break" your computer, why haven't you said "thanks" to them and "thread closed, will update when new computer parts...

Why not put it up in the for sale forum? I, and many others would have paid $$ + shipping for socket a mobos and cpus. Some people can still use this stuff. Use the FS forum!!!

formatting new notebook HD from external CD drive?

see this thread link there might be a way to get into your bios. If you can attach an external usb CD drive, and get it to boot from it, there won't be any problem installing windows from it. I did it with my Asus before the internal cd drive was shipped to me ;)

CPU thottle problem

Check that speedstep is enabled in the bios, then use speedswitch, or just change it in power properties. make sure your drivers are up to date as previously mentioned.

Asus W3J or Macbook Pro

You can do that in windows also under properties. Just set it to sleep or hibernate when you close the lid. I have a 15.4, and it isn't easy to take to class because it seems big, I would go with the 14, you'll definitely be happier with the slightly smaller size.

Ok, I'm done with Dell laptops.. any suggestions?

Asus. I have had one running 24/7 for almost 2 years now, all original hardware installed by me (HD, mem, proc, miniPCI wifi) They are one of the few manufacturers who DESIGN and BUILD their own notebooks (ODM=original design manufacturer) There are only a few major ODMs in the world...
