I have done nothing wrong. Apple themselves have said that they had to charge iTouch users because of some dubious legal ruling which said they couldn't provide extra functionality free of charge.
I'm not gaining extra functionality by doing a factory-reset to the new OS. I'm essentially...
I don't believe it is piracy, as I have not upgraded my iPod touch to OS 3.x (it is the upgrade you are paying for, keeping all previous settings and files while having the device updated to the latest OS).
What I did was quite different: I performed a factory reset, essentially reverting the...
I asked because I didn't want to brick my iTouch and wanted feedback from other people here who might have some idea of whether what I asked would work.
I've finally done it tonight and it seems that it does, which means I've saved US$10 which whilst not a big deal, means I'm not paying extra...
I have to agree here, the main thing I've learnt with my iTouch when out and about is to turn the internet off whenever you don't need it. You can struggle to get 4 hours of battery life if the internet is running on the iTouch, but can easily get double that if you shut it down. Turning the...
The thing is, many websites are saying this is what you can do to install the final (not beta) OS 3.0 for free. Essentially downloading the firmware with your browser from Apple's servers (which I've done), then using the ability in iTunes (provided it has been updated to iTunes 8.2.x.x) to...
I want to check this against a bunch of knowledgeable guys before considering going ahead with the iPod Touch 2G OS 3.0 upgrade, as it sounds too easy to be true and there surely has to be a problem somewhere if it isn't.
Is it true that I can avoid the US$10 (probably GB£6 where I live)...
In a word, No. PCI-E bandwidth is never a bottleneck with any normal application, so overclocking it will have no benefit. The only likely difference you will see from upping the PCI-E speed is increased chance of instability. If I were you, I'd leave it at the default.
Because Q3A was probably the most important benchmark in years gone by, so it is fun to see how ridiculously high the framerate is now.
It is meaningless in the grand scheme of things now as it is not representative of current applications, but does no harm as a bit of fun.
Not sure who you were replying to, but running the FSB at 300 is fine on some of the better motherboards available these days. Good enthusiast oriented mobos are designed with overclocking in mind (my DFI nF4 SLI-DR can do 300), even if the manufacturers do not officially condone it. Depending...
There are lots of good A64 overclocking guides about, theres probably one here one the AT forums, and there are definitely good ones on the Guru3d and HardOCP forums.
The basic rule is to do one thing at a time, find out what your mobo can reach (HT speed) when the CPU and RAM are both at...
Very nice. That makes effectively makes it a 5600+, or 5800+ if you push it! The A64 X2 2.6GHz parts aren't due to be released until Q1 2006, and the 2.8GHz ones aren't even on the roadmap yet, so you have a seriously fast machine that will probably be faster than anything officially available...
Yeah, I was really pleased that the XP-90C overhung the memory modules on my DFI board too, it's a free bonus on top of the already excellent cooling it provides the CPU. Of course the air being blown down onto the modules is probably warmer than the rest of the air in the case, but having some...
Jeez, what sort of cooling have you got on that 4400+ to be putting 1.68V through it and running it at almost 2.9GHz ffs, and only averaging 42C?!? Can water-cooling alone manage that or have you got a peltier in between as well?
I can take my 4400+ up to 2.68GHz and 1.5V, and it is rock-solid with two instances of Prime95. Judging from the limits I reached at 0.05V inrements, and the temperatures of them, I could probably pass 2.7GHz with this Thermalright XP-90C but I don't want to run too close to the edge (above 55C...
I don't know what thermal compound you are using, or how long you have been testing your box, but apparently the Arctic Silver 5 I'm using suggests it takes several days and the computer being powered-down for a while every so often to become fully effective, and maybe other compounds are...
