How do single people live and have a decent life on what they make?

Not all of us decide to live where we are. Some of us actually relocated for a better job market vs. cost of living. And then some of us actually got lucky and found someone to spend the rest of our lives with, which only added itself as iciing on the cake.

In two visits to the Atlanta Botanical Garden I had >4 DVD-Rs worth of RAW images. Good thing I don't do this monthly. It'd freak you out.

Are there any monitors with HDCP support, or are any coming any time soon?

Isn't a monitor nothing but a tunerless display? You can get 37" 1080P (1920x1080) LCD monitors with HDCP-enabled features (Westinghouse has one and is carried by Bad Buy).

Yeah, I know. Because they wouldn't be caught dead paying what the MSRP lists them for. As such, the manufacturers have to decentize (reduce their sale value) in order to get them sold.

Strange OS & HDD problem

This would require an FDD. How retro. Edit: D/l the WDC utility and ran it. Good new & bad new: I learned that its failing the SMART tests, but the sw pulled the drive's S/N info to learn its still under warranty.
