    Half-Life 2 now 64-bit?

Well, after having played for a short while, I can definitely say that I have had no "bugs" with the 4-bit HL2. However, load times are another story altogether. The load time for the beginning used to take maybe 15 seconds, now it's about 1 minute. Same thing happened with one of the "red...

    Half-Life 2 now 64-bit?

I decided to try Half Life 2 again recently. The latest update took me some 15 minutes on a 100 Mb line. That's nothing, since HL2 takes a long time to do anything even on the best hardware. But During the load screen I noticed a new message I never saw before near the top left saying "64-bit...

Part of the reason why Intel sucks... Poor game code.

Ok, part of the problem with that is the fact that there isn't a single Pentium 4. There was Willamette (sp?), Northwood, and I beleive that the last ones used Prescott architectures. Each architecture is very different; optimizations for a Northwood will reduce a Prescott's performance, and...

pixelated text (if inside a picture) on new dell laptop

It sounds like you're using a "web accelerator" tool, or Dell pre-installed one and set it to default on. Basically its only useful on 56k modems or slower lines in making pages load faster by loading smaller sized (i. e. crummy) images. EDIT: At least thats what it seems like.

    Half-life 2 and Antimatter

Nope, but it does get into String theory. Kalabi-Yau is the dead giveaway.

    Doesnt World of Warcraft Suck?

Actually its kind of interesting with these games. I don't know how geographical data/play/preferences/security are set up by the developers, but there is potential for people to live off of "farming" in these games by selling $50 worth on ebay each month - subscription costs, particularly if...

    On RAM heatspreaders...

Alright, I'll keep it in mind. But, we're not looking to change anything except the memory at this time, so changing the case/adding fans is not an option.

    On RAM heatspreaders...

I'm looking at getting 2 sets of 2 x 512 Corsair Value Select for an upgrade for one computer. since they dont have heatspreaders, I need to know what heatspreaders would be good to get. There will be 0 overclocking, but this system does get hot (Intel + small case + poor ventilation).

AMD or Intel? which is better for gaming?

Mostly wrong. Intel architecture has more theoretical potential to perform more work. In practice, most of the Intel processor is wasted with nops commands. This is especially true of the Itanium, which issues nops like no tomorrow.

Athlon64 is still the ONLY x64 processor!!!!

Need I remind you that our old 32-bit processors are only able to "emulate" 16-bit code? It's still used in such basic components as installation programs because developers are lazy.

How much RAM does Windows XP Pro Use?

XP Pro-64 takes about 350 MB RAM including I-explore, so I'm not really surprised. Windows Vista is supposed to require 2 GB of RAM at minimum, HDD with Flash storage, a 128 MB video card minimum. Don't ask me why it needs all that.

The World is Coming to the End...

In the US of A: July inflation 0.6%, annualized 7.2% August inflation 1%, annualized 12% September inflation 1.9%, annualized 22.8%. Current "official" unemployment: ~5%, based upon unemployed for 3 months Current traditional unemployment: ~10%, based upon unemployed for 6 months...

    64 bit technology

The answer is simple. Memory: 64-bit allows you to address 2^32 times more data in nominal memory Memory use: New options available for 8 byte (64-bit) fundie data types. However, there is some confusion about what is going on, but it seems to me a char is still 8 bit, but ints and...

What's newer, Toledo or Manchester core?

The 4200 and 4600 are Manchester, 4400 and 4800 are Toledo. The main problem with OC seems to be with the motherboards.
