I've had something like this happen to a few computers i've come across with.
There's a chance that your mobo is dead if clearing the cmos does not work.
Some games are more cpu intensive than others. Ones that are more cpu intensive can get a decent boost from the cache.
Other than that all the current processors with 4mb cache have higher multi's which help with overclocking.
For the most part u won't see much bonus to extra cache unless...
Bandwidth is NOT greater than timings......
It depends how much bandwidth you get after losing some timings.
If you only get like 20mhz extra and u go from cas 4-5 then ur better off at cas 4....
On the other hand if you gain 100mhz from moving cas 4-5 then you're better off with...
The REAL difference between the E4300 and E6300 is the manufacturing process.
The 6300 has 4mb cache with 2mb disabled which was how they did it initially.
Now they have a better manufacturing process so they make E4300 which only has 2mb cache to begin with which makes it cheaper to...
What guitardaddy said is pretty much the gist of it.
If the overclock is only slightly bad then u won't even notice anything but u'll get errors if you check it with programs like ORTHOS.
He makes a really good point i didnn't check what mobo u were using.
U gotta make sure the mobo u use can support higher fsb increments.
A good budget motherboard would be the Asus P5N-E SLI for overclocking.
Or even the Msi version which is the P6N SLI-FI which should be cheaper.
BTW if...
Honestly if you want your computer to be silent just buy any good cooler and don't put a fan on it. They'll run cooler than your stock heat sink fan and be ABSOLUTELY silent.
Some examples of decent coolers are Ultra 120, Scythe Infinity, Tuniq Tower 120. Even with no fan these coolers...
If you ask me all the 1333FSB chips are a waste of money.
Why would i pay for that when i can easily just overclock to 1333FSB. Especially since the multipliers are downward unlocked.
They're just cheaping you out on a higher multiplier.
Its like paying a x6800 price for an e6700.
what software is being upgrade?
I think you should probably go back and describe the problem with more detail.
just saying i'm losing my partition is very vague.
I can't really tell what the true problem is but i would get a new hard drive if that's the case.
Also 4 ur keyboard...
Have you checked your temps and maybe try an orthos overnight test?
Just look up orthos or sp2004 in google u'll find a the dl.
like some1 said earlier maybe try reinstalling windows.
Also even though your memory is ok it's possible that some program has a memory leak causing u 2 do a...
You're just crapping your pants for no reason man. Building a computer is fairly simple and especially when you just leave everything at stock. With everything at stock it should all just go by smoothly.
99% of these problems are when people try to do something special like use raid...
