Just got a Blade (3200x1800, 14") - did some programming in VS on Windows 10 with 125% text sizing and had no problems. Played some RAGE at native res and had no problems.
Same boat I was in except from Newegg - first Intel CPU since the Celeron 300A for me (16 years ago), expected a little better packaging for a $350 cpu. Heck I got a tin with my FX-8350.
December 2000 - Celeron 300A to 1ghz Thunderbird (Socket A)
I remember finally being able to utilize my Voodoo 5 5500 in Quake 3 to it's full potential.
Upgrading from a Dual 2ghz Mobile Barton (Socket A) -> Athlon X2 5200+ (AM2) in 2007 was a huge bump too.
No idea what TDP they were - hoping next trip to Frys or Best Buy will have some on display to install CPU-Z on.
If they were 15w (in particular the 8800 ENVY) - as long as it was faster than my now 3 year old 17" HP Pavilion (A10-4600m 35W) that's all I care about.
For work I have an...
They are in the Pavilion line - but not in the ENVY model.
In the US right now you've got a choice of:
1080p + 8700 + m360 + 802.11ac in 15" or 17" Pavilions
768p + 8800 (no 802.11ac or dGPU) in a 15.6" ENVY
I do a lot of development (sql/web/mobile/desktop/backend) so having the 1080p...
The thing that gets me is the HP ENVY 15 - if they would have put the same 1080p screen on the FX-8800p variant as they do with all of the Intel versions they would have gotten a purchase by me. I could have overlooked the lack of 802.11ac/dGPU.
Yeah unless you're going RAID 5 or 6 onboard ICH9R is fine, look at Areca or Highpoint Tech if you ever go down the RAID 5/6 route. I've 6x1.5TB 7200.11 Seagates (I know not the best performing) running in RAID 6 at around 500mb/sec reading for my 1080p video work.
Not that it really applies to the original poster, but I successfully went from a SB600 based motherboard to a SB750 based motherboard with a RAID 0 array and it picked up the array just fine and didn't have to reinstall Windows.
I'm currently running 2x500gb Maxtor SATA II drives in RAID 0 and get between 150mb/sec and 216mb/sec in benchmarks. If you don't care about your data ie its just games and apps, I see a huge difference but then again I do a lot SQL server/C#/C++/3D Animation/DV Editing stuff all the time so...
