I think that obsession exists only in certain members' heads.
I don't get it, if you want more nT performance we have better options now. What's so important about having them in a client package where they will be memory starved?
Some excellent points.
I've been mulling over two theories. One is that Microsoft wants to have windows be an apple-like relatively locked down evo-system and in the long term will make their own chips using the traditional vendors to do the hardware leg work initially while the platform...
The ISA doesn't really make any difference to power consumption. Whether AMD can achieve 100x, well that's what they say they can do. ARM Vs x86 wont make a difference on that front though. It's a red herring.
Nvidia is always better because of "The Latest Thing". Doesn't matter what it is or if it's usable or any good. It's "The Latest Thing", and AMD doesn't have that even if it doesn't matter. Buy Nvidia.
It's a margin product, but, for the OEMs too. Enables new use cases and power levels for the performance, saves on design complexity and lowers cooling needs. Once you build a chassis for it you're good for future versions too with the new form factor, should halo be a success
Ah, it makes a bunch of sense now.
I think value will be good this gen in the segments in which AMD competes, because I think AMD will offer reasonable value.
You think this will be a poor value gen because AMD won't be driving Nvidia pricing down. Have I got that right? So there will be a...
Whole lotta text. The original reply to your point was that value was gonna be bad again this gen. I don't think it will be in the segments AMD will compete in with RDNA4. That's it.
I agree you need a big win if you want to change mind share. This gen isn't it.
On you point about RDNA, if it...
I mean, it was meant to highlight the ridiculousness of the point, and I've made it.
If you travel beyond you office (to clients, say), a laptop is better than a NUC
If you sometimes work from home and sometimes in an office, a laptop is better
If you work at home but might want to move around...
It will provide good value in the segments it's in yeah. They need to sell a lot of cards. Yep, Nvidia will continue with that narrative of having the best, so what? This is about whether AMD will price them for value, what's it got to do with Nvidia having the high end. Even if AMD had the best...
Cool I'll just enter the room with my NUC and set up the screen, just give me a minute need to find the power. Oh can someone pass me that keyboard just need to plug that in, there we go, mouse plugged in, lovely yeah ready to go. What?
Maybe some NUCs replace desktops for the home user but that's not exactly a big market. Sure some NUCs have laptop chips, so technically if you count NUCs some will have a LP island but it's not going to be a segment you make a chip for and it's pretty small.
