Atom for sale at Newegg

PCI is the logical choice. It's universal... unless you want to install a SAS card or something crazy. Sure, an x1 slot may offer double the bandwidth, but for a $69 kit, compatibility is more important.

Intel Price Cuts Be a Comin' Q3

In Q3, the Q6600 will still be doing the majority of the grunt work for Intel. That's why they're keeping it. It'll continue to beat AMD in the numbers game: 2.4 GHz and 8 MB cache. Not to mention real-world performance. Finally, it squeezes AMD even tighter by forcing X3 Cripple-Core down...

It's times like these when I'm glad I can read Chinese. HKEPC posted a slide deck and a huge article on Nehalem a few days ago. Since then, almost everybody has linked to them.

8 Core Nehalem

Intel is building four 45nm fabs, each of which have 176,000 to 200,000+ sq. feet of clean room space. AMD's Fab 36 has less than 1/5 this amount of clean room space. Even if you account for Larrabee and Silverthorne, it doesn't take a whiz to figure out which process node Intel plans to...

8 Core Nehalem

I blame monolithic design

CPU designs take 3-5 years before fruition. AMD's game plan for Barcelona was devised back when Intel was touting NetBurst. Back then, Intel intended to take NetBurst to the next step via Tejas, which was a monolithic 213mm2 device (Barcelona is 285mm2). AMD probably also genuinely believed...

Is this the end of the line for the Athon64 X2 core?

AMD will release a 5800+ (2.9 GHz, 89W) and a BE-2450 (2.5 GHz, 45W) next year. Brisbane still has to hold the fort for another 4-6 months before Phenom X2 arrives.

AMD Unveils Second ?Black Edition? Microprocessor for Enthusiasts

The data only measures the U.S. retail market (i.e. Wal-Mart, BB, CC) so the data isn't conclusive. If you factor in Intel-centric sources like white box builders and Dell, I suspect Intel comes out on top.

Penryn lineup ?

Q9300 is designed to compete with Phenom at sub-$200. These prices are designed to be fluid since Phenom prices have not yet been revealed. Right now, Q9300 has a $266 placeholder, but soon, you'll see a Q9350 with 12 MB cache replacing it. Q9300 will be sub-$200.

Intel Penryn desktop processors listed

It should be pretty obvious the QX isn't 130W. The 3.2 GHz (X5482) quad-core part for DP is 120W. They're holding onto the 130W envelope in case a 3.33+ part is needed.

AMD Confirms Three Core Phenom

Triple-core is a double-edged sword, especially since AMD has confirmed that those parts will be salvaged from quads. Yields increase with time. If the triple-core market is as big as AMD suggests, they'll eventually have to make X3s from perfectly good X4s. If a powerhouse like Dell or HP...
