Best way to back up hard drive in this situation?

I have found the NIC to be the bottleneck in network clones. I can copy a 600 MB image in 15 minutes with the highest compression turned on- and that's on a PII 233.

What does Pentium mean?

BTW... I'm not so sure that the P4 is a 786. I heard once that Intel wanted the P54C chip to sound "strong", like Titanium (kinda funny in light of the FDIV bug).

DVI > CRT Converter

You can tell if a D to A converter will work by looking at the DVI connector. If the funny plus-shaped thing has 4 pins in the corners, the converter will work.

Need a good 19" CRT monitor...

In my experience, the Walmart/Sams KDS 19 is a horrible monitor. Not only does it have a poor picture right out of the box, but of the 3 brand new ones I have kept track of in the past year, 1 of them is dead and 1 of them has lost the green gun.

I have a Rad 7200 32m PCI that works about the best you'll get from that bus - US $79.

Best way to back up hard drive in this situation?

Ghost 2003 can handle NTFS, and it boots from a floppy. If you don't want to install it on your 2k machine, just make the floppy from a 9x computer. Your can dump a diskimage over the network if it likes your NIC.

Help me fix this computer.

I have dealt with a couple hundred hard drives with bad sectors in the past month (Horror!). Run scandisk from DOS, and allow it to do a surface scan. Avoid fdisk at all costs, because if it hits the bad sector while "verifying drive integrity", it may hang and never partition again. If all...

XP does have all but msdos.sys, but you may blow something up if you try to make any 16-bit tweaks.

Help! New nf7-s Install getting NOTHING

That little fan wiggle indicates: 1. Something is shorting the power to ground 2. Your RAM or CPU is not installed properly 3. You have bad hardware somewhere in your system. Also, you may have mobo AGP protection. Try removing the vid card and see if it powers up.

Having problems with Creative soundblaster 5.1 digital.

My SBLive likes to grab a different IRQ and DMA on every boot. On occasion, I will try to share with my MPEG card, and the conflict result in some nasty sounds. Try turning off DOS emulation.

I have done a little listening on the Cambridge "MegaWorks" 5.1 set, and they sound better than anything I have heard, PC or elsewhere. Put the volume at 50%, and it'll disturb the neighbors alright. Fidelity's outstanding, too. Beats DTT3500 with a stick.
