400GB to big?

What you could always do is, stay with the 400. Then when prices drop a little, get 2 more,and put them in a RAID5. That way, all of your "shows" will be backed up. If you use a hardware based RAID, I don't think you can normaly go from a 1 to a 5, but that might just be the cards I have used.

Or, you could just get an older PC, and put Linux on it. You could even get a hot swap cage for the hard drives. Do either hardware RAID via a card, or software RAID and LVM.

That only will apply to the name of your domain. If you want your DHCP server to send it, or have Gentoo set it manualy. I would think that it is your /etc/conf.d/net file that is doing it. Make sure that all the lines in there are # out. You might also want to look on Gentoo's forum site...

You can burn the files onto a CD. Then when the Live CD is booting, use the command gentoo cache That way when it is up, you can take the CD out,and put in the one with the correct kernel. Hope that helps.

Is there any way to reinstall winXP with killing linux.

As far as I know, there isn't. Not sure what distro you are useing, but with Gentoo, all you do is boot off the CD, mount your / and /boot. CHROOT into / and run grub or lilo. Back to where you were at. As long as your config file is right.

You might also look at using Knoppix. You can load it up, and do a copy. As long as the source drive isn't NTFS

Fileserver RAID 1 Upgrade - ATA or SATA?

It was going from RAID 0 to RAID5. It splits the writing between 3 drives, so it is a little quicker. Now reads might slow down, but it is a nice trade off incase a hard drive crashes on you. :)

External SCSI upgrade

OK, maybe I didn't word that right. It wouldn't be the first time. :D I already have the internal SCSI RAID card. It's an AMI Enterprise 1200. I was just hoping to upgrade an external cage array that I have. It has a built in power supply, so I think I am ok there. Maybe I just need to tear the...

External SCSI upgrade

I have an old external SCSI enclosure. It is a 6x4gig now. The thing is, it is 50 pin. I was wondering how hard it would be to upgrade it to a 68 pin. Or better yet 80 for hotswap. It's an old DEC enclosure. I don't have the modle right off. Can I just change out the cable? Thanks for the help.

After you get in there, move the video settings down to 800x600. It sounds like the monitor can't support the rez that you have it at right now.

Relaying not permitted? Outlook problem...

Take a look at your "Reply To:" settings. If it is a diffrent e-mail account, then they may be blocking it. You may not be "signed" into your ISP. Try to recieve your mail, and then try to send something out. If that works, you might want to call your ISP and see if there is something they can do.
