One of the Dell forum moderators may be posting the "official word" from Dell regarding these issues sometime today.

in case someone was looking for yet another gradient test try the "Deep Freeze" demo from 3dmark06 - the banding in the sky and snow can be quite distracting. When using the VGA port there was quite an improvement over the DVI here.
fyi - I haven't been overly distracted by the banding...
The reason for the replacement was the gradient banding. They wanted to make sure it wasn't just the cable - they also wanted to send out a monitor with that just to be sure.
Can't complain about the delivery times and the fact I still have my existing monitor.
One could hope that in their own...
I called support and got a replacement monitor in no more than one and a half days - very impressive turn around time I thought - 5 stars.
Unfortunately the replacement monitor had identical banding plus a small cluster of bad pixels just to the left of the middle of the screen ( 4 pixels that...
I can assure you I did research this product as much as possible at the time - all reviews and write ups were good, some even stated that gradients were smooth. Unfortunately I could not go and see one for myself as there are no Dell kiosks in my area.
If a thread like this one existed a few...
Sorry for the late reply - I have been without internet services for a few days (cut cable).
Yes there is a purple hue when viewing outside of the specified viewing angles - definately ips.
I should mention that the service menu on my 2007WFP states the panel is an LM201W01 and not the LG.Philips LM201WE2 panel as stated in the link your provided (and other reviews).
So either it's the same panel as the 2005FPW or the service menu reports a generic base model number and is not...
waldo - to answer your question to JM - yes you would need to use a digital camera and put the image up somewhere public for us to see. no need for flash as the screen should be bright enough (kind of like lunar photography).
Also if you don't mind would you be able to go into the service menu...
Try looking at those colour cubes in either the "Multimedia" or "Game" modes- not so good are they.
Desktop mode is clearly the best at reproducing full colour - wonder why it can't show those other gradients.
Yes there is definately something wrong with the monitor but I don't believe it's simply a matter of 16bit vs 24bit in this case. I think the monitor is showing full 24bit colour (or very, very close to) even via DVI - however banding is very clear under certain circumstances.
Have a look at...
That's why I'm thinking it's a display mode preset issue. This banding issue is quite clear and any reviewer would have been able to spot it - perhaps Dell revised the firmware or the presets at some point after the batch that was reviewed.
A poster on the Australian WP forums who just recieved...
I've also tried various cables which didn't change anything.
I'm thinking it could be related to how the 3 preset display modes have been configured at the factory. Still haven't spoken with Dell - will try first thing tomorrow morning.
