I would go with this keeping in mind you most likely won't enjoy playing through Asylum if you play City first. Asylum was good but City was much more polished with better controls and fight mechanics. Going from City to Asylum, you really notice the differences.
You may want to e-mail Steam customer support. I remember seeing somewhere on my retail copy of CS:S that if something ever happened, I could e-mail them a photo of the install disc or product card with activation key and get the game back into my Steam account.
If you decide to go with a wireless 360 controller, keep in mind the play and charge kit will not allow you to plug it in and use the controller on the PC. You'll have to get the wireless receiver or get a wired 360 controller.
If you want to do competitive scrims then stick with 1.6.
Otherwise if you want casual play, go with CS:GO. GO would be fine for competitive play since the matchmaking system is decent, but with the recent sales I'm expecting a large influx of hackers and new players into the community.
Same. I might hit up some FPS or RTS on the side if I want a little variety, but otherwise I tend to stick with a single plot-based game (usually RPG's) at any given moment.
