HD7970 crazy artifacting/crashing

If it never needed heatsinks for 4 years it seems unlikely that overheating is the cause.. On the other hand it could be that existing heatsinks (e.g. the one cooling the gpu itself) have started to come unstuck, much like that hullabaloo over badly applied TIM in macbook pros causing artifacts...

Attempt at "cheapest viable Facebook / browser build".

OP did you assess a need with patrons of soup kitchens for PCs that can browse Facebook and apparently do little else, or are you just looking to put parts together for fun and the 'charity' is merely an ancillary benefit--a way to dispose of the results, rather than the main goal? A desktop...

If you want a bigger screen and external keyboard, buy those and plug it into your laptop until you've saved enough to build a PC that's significantly better all at once. Unless you have a need to use two computers at a time putting together a PC that's roughly as powerful as your existing...

Corsair 540 owners using stock fan config, do you have dust issues?

I'm running the stock 2 fans in front + 1 behind using a 'quiet' fan profile in UEFI (Asus) and I was wondering if over time I might be getting big dust build up through the vents (top grille especially). Right now all fans are idling at between 850-900rpm and I was wondering if this was enough...

F@H - How do keep CPU working always, but pause GPU on idle?

I'm getting bad lag (in Plex, and even just scrolling web pages) while the GPU is folding so I would like to set it to run at idle only, but can't seem to do this through the web interface. Checking the option sets both CPU and GPU to run at idle. How do I configure CPU and GPU individually...

MoCA Adapters not increasing LAN speed

I got capped at 90-100mbps till I checked one of the ethernet cables in the loop; it was only 2-pair, although still (wrongly?) labelled as Cat 5e. 2-pair has a max speed of 100mbit. Once I switched to a 4-pair Cat 5e (gigabit) I started maxing out my 200/200mbps fibre line instantly.

second topic line

If i'm not wrong vB has the ability to provide summaries when you mouse-over the topic link, i.e a box will pop up with the summary or the first line of the OP. That would work nicely. A second line for summary would waste screenspace IMO

Palm Pre

This phone really appeals to the geek side of me :) The style-conscious side still prefers an iPhone or Blackberry Bold to this, but damn if the Pre's OS doesn't look amazing. At it's announcement it was stated that yes, turn-by-turn will be available. Probably not final yet, i.e like...

What do you work as? I'm curious as I'm planning on majoring in PS and English too.. Also I recently dropped out of an Aerospace Engineering diploma (guess it's sort of equivalent to an American trade college) course in the final year. Honestly couldn't imagine another day with the engineer...
