I did read on a reliable source once that experiments have shown very high refresh rates to be *more* tiring again for the eyes. That it's not simply a matter of higher=better for the eyes, but that there's a "sweet-spot" somewhere between 85 and 100 Hz. Not sure whether this referred to the...
Another reason for multiple smaller partitions: if the filesystem gets corrupted and it does a checkdisk after rebooting, you're gonna have to wait an eternity with a 80GB+ partition <G>
Funny that you call it 'odd'.
It is 1280x1024 that is odd! Look at those nice circles (noooot... they become elipses :) ), nice portrait pics (that's how heads look on Jupiter <G>)...

Sadly, I do a lot of graphics work and LCD is a no-no (especially when previously having used a CRT) (please spare us the dual monitor argument <g>)
Yeah, that wasn't the main reason for not liking them but it sure is distracting when closely judging pics. Somehow it's difficult to judge...
To clarify: I didn't have technical problems. It's just that I seem to be incompatible with aperture grille. I just CAN'T stand looking at it for longer periods. Surely I'm not the ONLY one.

If anyone remembers: I'm the guy from the "can't stand Trinitron CRT's" post a few weeks ago.
Well, although I was first unsure I've now experienced the same problems with 3 Trinitron/Diamondtron monitors (An IIyama 450, Lacie Electronblue IV and EIZO T766, all 19" flat tube)and finally decided...
Here's an update:
I got to test an EIZO 730. 19" shadowmask, not flat though. Discontinued model, they only had one demo screen left!
It looks f***** great and easy on my eyes!! Great electronics: 1280*1024 at 100Hz refreshrate. <g> Even at 1600*1200 it still delivers 92Hz. Not to mention...
Well, keep in mind that I tried it for a very short time (before I had to move it to the workstation that it belonged to, LOL). Plus: this was with the on-board intel videochip of a DELL Optiplex GX 240.
But I really didn't like what I saw: from a normal position I could easily see big...
BTW, does the "i-sound" option of EIZOs produce a bearable sound? It would sure save some deskspace.. I'm not using any high-end speakers atm anyway.

This is what the specs say:
50 cm (19 inch) class, 90° deflection Invar Shadow Mask. No mention of "flat" tube.
The PDF-document contains a photograph that suggests a bulged tube as well... And it's what the sales person told me, too :)
Well, I'm not using it professionally or specifically...
Well, I'm in the middle of a monitor-acquisition-process <G> and I would really like to point out that it is a VERY personal choice. You're only sure what you like best after you've seen it.
Personally I seem to have problems with Trinitron CRT's compared to the older shadow mask CRTs. I also...
Looks like I mixed up things here, LOL.
Anyways, I checked a bit further and they still sell this one:

Shadow mask, 19". Sadly no flat screen. What worries me a bit is that it is advertised as a low-cost standard business model...
