MSI's Quality?

msi neo4 (AMD 939) here running 15 hours a day for over 3 years. once in a while, when swapping memory I've had some wierdness but as far as reliability goes, its a trooper.

I'm sure all the et's except the ones I got are amazing. I'm telling you they sucked. I have to assume they were defective, but for <$10 these buds sound fine, especially with a minor amount of eq via Rockbox parametric.

How to best set up a fileserver

You're using Windows, I assume? Turn off "use simple file sharing" in Explorer>Folder Options>View (all the way at the bottom of the list) and you will get a new "security" tab for setting folder permissions. If you want to block the server from the net, you can block it's IP on the router...

Recommendation on NB cooling fan

Don't use a 40mm fan. 40mm fans are bad news. They develop high-pitched whines after a short period of time and will drive you crazy. You'll be much better off with a volt-modded 60mm or 80mm fan running at low RPMs if you care about noise. If you don't mind the noise, a 40mm fan will work...

Do I have to remove from the box thermal compound?

Mineral spirits, rubbing alcohol, or similar, will get rid of the standard compound.
