1. will it work with an IWILL KA-266 motherboard
2. what is "improved branch prediction" going to do in simple terms (basically does the Palomino offer more advantages over the tbird then just clock speed and if so in what way)
thanks
I think 2 weeks, based on info I've heard about them being listed in some places...What do you think? (trying to decide if I should buy 1.33 in a week or so or wait for 1.4).
I don't think that's possible...I honestly don't know anyone in the area that can do that (I live in a small town). Well you still haven't convinced me and i'm still leaning towards the Xi, but you've all been a lot of help. I'm getting off now, thanks a lot.
ok, but I don't think you realize my state. I know virtually nothing of hardware. I've seen a computers innards exactly once, when an uncle put some RAM in, that was 4 years ago. I don't know what a motherboard does, what it looks like, etc. I think there is no way I could do this well.
OK, here is the other problem. The PC i am currently using is 5 and a half years old. there is NO WAY I will be getting a new PC within the next year-two, my parents wouldn't put it in context. If I get a 700 dollar PC I have something out of date in 5 months that I have to use for 2 years. Not...
Overkill right now is the point. It won't be in not too long. This isn't all my parents money, i am paying 1/3-2/3 of it. This computer I think should be upgradable to Palomino and comes with plenty of RAM so it should be pretty long lasting, as PCs go.
I believe you, but the other thing is that 1.I will have some problems and need tech support and 2.It has to last awhile because after this I will not get one for awhile.
Also I don't think my parents would be confident in sending 3000 bucks off to some guy in Hawaii, but thanks for the offer.
That's a good question. I have no idea. I am about to email them, I guess it must be ALi Magik, but like I said I know nothing of computer hardware.
I have a backup, which is a top of the line Micron for about 3100, but i don't like it as much because it only offers 512 megs. If this Xi...
well here's one way you could help me. I am very seriously considering this system:
Xi MTower Athlon
Xi MTower Athlon $899.00
AMD Athlon (tm) 1.333GHz upg. 266MHz FSB T-Bird w/350W P.S. $299.00
768MB DDR PC2100 266MHz 3 pcs. Req. ALI or VIA 266 Cs. $581.00
nVidia GeForce II ULTRA 64MB DDR...
I have no idea, this is the info provided by Xi Computers. It is the only one available they ha ve that can support 768 megs. Another they offer is AMD 761, but this has I think 2 DIMMs.
The only reason I am considering getting a Xi is because it has support for 768 megs whereas Micron only...
I am considering getting a PC2100DDR-ALI 266FSB w/ATA 100 (from Xi) to go with my computer because it can hold 768 megs ddr ram. Is this a good idea or should I stick safe and go with the one micron offers to go with their comps, which can only hold 512?
