Newbie Q???. Do I have too many fans?

How about a dryer sheet for an air filter - also serves as an air freshener. As for your original question, the general rule of thumb is as follows: cfm into system=cfm out of system excluding psu. Otherwise you run into noise problems, ineffecient cooling, etc... Fix, buy another fan like...

Are the Athlon MP chips not multiplier locked?

I agree with bozo except for the pencil (From Toms's: Why The Pencil Trick Doesn't Work Unlike the conventional Athlon (ceramic substrate with a Thunderbird core), on which the L1 contacts can be connected with a pencil stroke, AMD has put more work into protecting the Palomino's multiplier...

OC'ed Ti200 = Ti500?

Since were on the quantispeed type video card discussion... What do you call an overclocked Ti500 @ 585 and 270. A Ti800 maybe????:) Have not tried more yet and probably wont. I am using a 120 mm case fan for slot cooler, copper ramsinks, crystal orb.

Are all Athlon MP chips really multiplier unlocked?

I thought they were locked but didnt have the laser cut trenches. In otherwords, you would not have to fill in the trenches(like the XP), but you would still have to trace the L1 bridges with some conductive paint, etc...

Swiftech MC-462 & Athlon XP's

I have the swifty MCX-462 with an 80 mm enermax adjustabel fan running at 40 cfm 32 db. The Thermaltake smartfan (like on the volcano 7) combo with this heatsink is also a good choice - 48 cfm with 35 db I think. Well worth the cost. Regarding installation, just take the time to read the...

How much thermal paste is enough?

I Cant remember where this tip came from... Use saran wrap or and stretch it over your finger (avoid getting oil from your finger on the cpu) and apply an almost transparent coat. Too much is not good! The good thing about this technique is that you dont have to worry about gouging your cpu...

New System Too Loud! Which HSF Should I Get?

PAL8045 + Papst fan => 'No CPU fan' warning at POST

go to your hardware/temp monitoring page in your bios. There will be an option to disable cpu fan monitoring. This is the only way around your problem I know of.

Quietest CPU Cooler for XP 1600+

Best (and quietest) HSF for $30 or less

Get the Volcano 7 with a built in thermal diode and variable speed fan. http://www.coolerguys.com/cpucool/duron.shtml This fan has recieved top reviews for this level cooler. While it isnt a swiftech mxc462, it is half the price and does a great job.

Not sure where my bottle neck is....

Noize and temperature

built 2 of these boards and did result in 7-10 degree temp drops. Never said any mobo temp reading was accurate, but the dif. in temp after flashing new bios was undisputable (same mobo, cpu, software to measure temp)- The only thing that changed was a lower temp. Check it out another...
