My 2nd PNY has done right by me. I currently have it clocked at 375 core, hadn't had the need or motivation to test its limits. With that said, PNY packages their card rather poorly. I got my first card at CompUSA and returned it for a new one the next day. If I didn't get a discount on the...
Oops, should be Newcastle. I was originally planning on a 3500+, but changed my mind and Winchester was ingrained in my head when I was typing my sig, LOL.
I picked up mine for $385 (Go Go Business Discount) at CompUSA yesterday. I installed it, and ran WoW for the better part of the evening without any issues. I have a Thermaltake Purepower 420 and the rails were steady during the entire time. I get home today and turn it on...artifacts...
The 9700 Pro looks like it has enough staying power to last through most of next year. At the very least, it should be more than enough until PCI-Express makes its debut. Quite impressive.

You seriously need to spend a few extra dollas for a better HSF combo. 55C is way too high for idling, IMO. SVC.com has the Thermalright SK7 for about $16 bucks. Get a nice $7-8 dollar panaflo or sunon fan and you're set.
My house is a split level. My lower level ipartly below ground so it stays pretty cool during the summertime. I have a ceiling fan that keeps the room at about 78-80 F. I idle at about 39C, and load at 44-45C.
I just got a Power Cooler Radeon 9700 (non pro). With Catalyst 3.4, I got a measly 13k on my first run with default settings. I would have done some more tweaking, but I had to go to work. My proc is a 1700+@2200Mhz (11*200) with 2*256 Megs of Corsair XMS PC 3500 running dual channel. Any...
