Best bang-for-buck $300 - $500 Notebook

Friend of mine is looking to get one for college. He only wants it to do papers, communicate via facebook, take notes, etc. No games, folding, audio/video creation, or anything hardware-intensive from the sounds of it. What would be a good catch? Thanks in advance.

480i to 1080p?

So I need to obtain HD content in order to use HD content. Makes sense, and I suspected that but wasn't sure. Thanks guys.

Is there anyway to convert, say AVI files, to MPEG4? I have Cyberlink PowerDirector 7 and am curious as to how I can make HD music videos. At the very least I'd like 720p, but am unsure how to up the quality of the existing files I have. I'm guessing I'd have to obtain a raw version or, at...

Catalyst 9.4 are out

Customer satisfaction. I understand that the Clear Sky issue isn't a high priority, but I thought they would at least acknowledge it as a problem.

4850 vs 9800GTX+

Sorry, it's not my rig. But judging by that picture, it looks like it would be a pretty tight fit. Why not just go with a different case?

It would still be a very tight fit once you get all of the connectors going where they need to. Had the 4850's 6-pin connector been placed on the long edge of the card (the top) rather than the short edge (the side), it's shorter length would have paid off better. Here's a pic to help...
