you can use vmware consolidated backups to dump the virtual machine out to a single image on a windows box, and then backup that if you want. or you could create a clone of the virtual machine.

Should have also said lifesaver because say i want to test an oracle upgrade. On a physical machine i would have had to backup to tape (potentially taking hours), apply the upgrade and then test. If there's a problem then i would have to restore from tape which could again take hours. With a...

question on Active Directory

I cant check this to confirm at the moment, but off the top of my head, can't you enable 'Advanced Options' under one of the drop down lists, and then search for your object, open its properties, and then theres an 'Object' tab that displays the full path to the object.

Resetting trust relationship between client pc and DC

Good question - ive only ever done this from the client by moving back to a workgroup and then rejoining the domain. Can anyone explain what the reset computer account options in AD Users & Computers does? Ive never found a use for it.

S3 Sleep/Hibernation problems on P35C-DS3R/E8400/HD8700

Intel E8400 and GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L

hey, I just did a very similar thing last night - but using a GA-P35C-DS3R It worked fine, in fact i think the BIOS on the motherboard was F3 (pretty low anyway). Windows installed fine and then I upgraded the BIOS to F10.

32 and 64bit Vista on same PC? license issues?

Just wondering if microsoft are ok with me installing both the 32 and 64 bit versions of Vista on the same PC i.e. dual boot? I've got 32bit Vista installed, but am keen to give 64bit a go just to test driver support for my hardware and see if there's any benefit for me. Thanks

Antivirus for Windows Server 2003

We've got etrust on all our servers and have never had any problems with it tbh. As already mentioned, it sits there doing it's thing without taking up much resources. It's also easy to centrally manage in terms of updates, policies etc. Cheap aswell!

Changing or removing the arrow on XP icons

Hi, I recently downloaded tweak UI version 2.1 from here: http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx I've just checked, and if you drill down to Explorer --> Shortcut, it will allow you to change the shortcut icon in there.

When you specify the name or ip address of the computer your trying to connect to, follow it with a :Port no i.e. 192.168.2.3:4000
