critical array failure

QUestion on RAID 5. I have a SCSI setup with 4 drives. One of them failed 2 days ago. I called IBM, and guess how they wanted to replace it. NO JOKE, 1064 American dollars. For 1 18GB hard drive. over 1000 dollars!!! So my question is, do i need to replace the drive with the exact model...

P5AD2 Premium USB 2.0 woes

PCI X Firewire 1394b

I do not think the 800 card will help with the CF transfers. CF is limited to a speed much below even firewire 400.

Keyboard lubricant?

I had the same think happen to mine. I just poured seltzer water in there (the bubbles help scrub) and shook it really hard. worked like a charm

Dell 1905FP vs. Dell 2001FP

I have that 19" Dell and I think it is GREAT. the screen resolution is perfect for me. There is no way I could ever use 1600x1200. i do not do graphical work like cad, mostly just programming and web based stuff. If you want an everyday monitor, i say def. go with the 19". You will not be...

Display corruption problem - please help!!!

How close is this computer to your heat? Now that it is the winter, most people assume that they are OK cause it is cold outside. but if they case is next to baseboard heat, that may have been the problem.

POLL: New hard drive vs DVD-RW's

I think I would choose hard drives, and really sensitve data (financial, pictures, home movies) to DVD's. I have had CD's that I used for backup refuse to read when I needed to get the data from them. I have heard that CD's and DVD's have this problem, with the Dye's wearing thin.

420gb! Cools things to do with it?

I would use the 120 as backup. Using the built in windows software, do nightly / weekly backups of your important folderes and files. That way if the big drive fails, all the good stuff is nice and safe.

Does it Make Sense to Buy a DVD RW and a CD-RW?

What I did was get a DVD-RW as my burning drive (CD's and DVD's) I then got a DVD-ROM drive for my other drive. The reason I did this was because the -ROM drives typically read quieter with less fan noise. I am not that interested in burning a CD at the fastes speeds possible.

Max memory XP (or Server 2003) will handle?

I had heard some boards have trouble addressing all 4GB of RAM. Also, the timings become slightly slower when you use more than 2 sticks in dual channel mode.

between these 2 cases whcih would be the best bang for buck

keeping printer on always = bad?

I leave my inkjet on all the time, but shut my laserjet off at night to save power. those things suck more juice than a CRT

What to do with a second PC

Make it a linux box. You can learn to do everything from programming to configuring routers and networking tables. Its free, fun, and there is a ton of resources out there to use.
