Need some advice on older ultralight single-spindle notebook

Mini PCI 802.11G WiFi Card + Toshiba 2430-S255

Do not use any Intel WI-FI cards. I remember I was not able to get them to work in the 1135 and I pretty sure they would not work in the 2435. You will not have any problems with Agere cards and Atheros cards should work fine as well. Make sure you are at the most recent BIOS, 1.7 I think.

I want a Tablet PC, any recommendations?

I have found Acer's C series to be nice units. Only a 10" LCD, but that makes them light and easy to hold when using them in tablet mode.

Laptop freeze when installing Windows with AC power adapter...

Upgrade the BIOS to the latest version, it solves thermal issues. Also make sure blow out both fans on the laptop to make sure they are spinning correctly.

Are laptop cdrw drives generally interchangeable except for the brackets?

You also have to pay attention the configuration of the drive, whether it is a M/S (master/slave) or CSEL (cable select). The IBM should be expecting a CSEL drive, though I think you will only lose the ability to boot to the drive if you put in a M/S (a lot of M/S laptops will not see a CSEL...

It will be hard to find any new fans under $10.00. The fans I see range from ~$20.00 to $90.00 for the fan/heatsink combos.

Cleaning Laptop Keyboards

My aunt claimed she could usually get about 3 cleanings with using rubbing alcohol before the kybd would stop working all together. Other than running a non-working kybd under hot water for about 5 minutes (still didn't work) I have not tried to clean a kybd.
